Laetitia Lesaffre is a visual artist, lacquer painter and photographer. Her work explores reflection. She photographs her subjects reflected in her lacquers. In line with the pictorialist movement, she seeks to dissolve the boundary between painting and photography.

REFLECTIONS

Time is suspended, like an image conjured up from a dream, of which we remember neither the place nor the time to which it belongs.

The mirror – a symbol of the purity of the soul in Japan – often encourages introspection. Through the mirror effect, the model emerges from the darkness, perceives himself, sees himself looked at and looking…

The image he offers will no longer be truly his own: triggered at the moment when he lets his thoughts drift, and distorted because such a particular reflection, the image that remains is a sketch, an impression, which aims to be as accurate as possible.

Between composition and spontaneity, between meditation and immediate action, the artist seeks to capture that moment when the subject escapes its image, and thus reveals another interpretation of the body, of the portrait, of the very essence of the subject.

The grain and blur of the picture give the subject its intimacy.

My photographs become impressionistic,

They abandon the line to keep only the essence of the subject.
